Playa Guasacate, often mistakenly referred to as Popoyo (a different stretch beach to the south), is the original access point to the infamous wave of Popoyo. Guasacate is ground zero, where surfers, Nica weekenders, families, and backpackers all cross paths to enjoy this sleepy stretch of Pacific coastline. With a number of sleeping and dining options within walking distance, Guasacate is still the ideal spot to post up and explore the region. La Vaca Loca is located on the southern end of Playa Guasacate, a short walk to the river mouth, and an honest 10 minute walk (one of the closest) to surf Popoyo. At La Vaca, you have direct beach access along with privacy, peace, and quiet in the center of the 'barrio'.
